Kenny Park was the venue for the U13C1 Cup final which saw Oranmore Maree hurlers take on their counterparts from St Mary’s Athenry.

Athenry, playing with a strong wind, led by 4 points after 10 minutes but the Oranmore Maree lads rallied to leave just a point between the sides at half time (1-2 to 0-4).

There was plenty of excitement and excellent skill in the second half. Donnacha Duffy found the net and Oranmore Maree led 1-6 to 1-2 but Athenry goaled to leave the minimum between the sides again. The closing minutes were hard fought but when referee Tomas Lally blew the long whistle Oranmore Maree were 1-point victors on a score of 1-6 to 2-2.

Eoin Diviney finished the game as top scorer and Diarmuid Holland collected the man of the match award after a fine performance in mid-field.

The heavy rain did not dampen the players' spirits as captain Ruarai Healy, surrounded by his joyous teammates, collected the cup.

Well done to all the squad on Monday’s performance and on a very enjoyable campaign.
